Leaning in to Hear God's Voice
And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice-1 Kings 19:12 (kjv)
Sometimes God may be prompting you to take baby steps and learn to hear His voice through His Word so you can learn, recognize, and exercise learning how He speaks. Although the Bible was inspired by the Holy Spirit and written through human hands. Let's not forget, that if God wanted to, He would have done it all Himself. But since He wants companionship with us, He moves people's hearts to bless us. That's how He works, it must not be questioned. Grateful for the people who were obedient to the call over their lives in order to produce the 66 books of the Bible. They are the definition of true heroes. The stories have marked generations and will continue to mark generations until Jesus comes back for His church.
God desires for us to learn to reach out to Him when we have questions, even when we feel like we don't have anything to say to Him. Sometimes (like in relationships), we'd like to put up walls with others, not truly express what's in our hearts and how we really see things. Imagine that being seen in the same way when God desires for us to practice in seeking Him and seeing Him in every circumstance we go through here on this earth. A lot of the time God's voice is not going to be heard through others of the faith or even an unbeliever, but through you.
God can speak to your conscience because He created you. I know it may sound deep but good ideas and knowledge are based on the production of God's grace, mercy, and gift to human beings. No good thing does He withhold from those that walk uprightly. Learn to depict His voice instead of thinking you're all on your own in whatever situation you got going on in this life.
Trust the fact that He can give you a good memory, a verse, a strategy, a phone call, a friendship, a spiritual leader, etc (whatever it is) to communicate with you. Let's not forget that He used a donkey to speak to someone in the Old Testament. Best believe, He'll do anything to capture your attention.
God loves you so much. Learn to apply scriptures instead of just reading them. Then your life and your outlook on life will be different.
God destined the Bible to cause change and impact in the world. Let God's Word in your heart so that eventually when God says: "go" you go faithfully. When God says: "stop" you stop faithfully. When God says: "I need you to do something for me. I need you to go pray for someone" or "I need you to give this word to someone" or "I need you to operate in your spiritual gifts because it will bring edification to my church" please listen. Whatever it is God is prompting you to do. Learn to lean in to hear God's voice. Even in the stillness of silence and surrender.
After you continue to seek God diligently, His voice will be more recognizable for you to perceive against the voice of the enemy. The enemy loves to condemn and make you feel shameful, hopeless, desperate, etc. Anything negative, that's the definition of the enemy's tactics (the devil). That's why the Bible emphasizes the virtue of truth in using the Word of God as a sword in the Spirit for the enemy will attack through anything and anyone. Even "innocently" or with "ignorance." Even despite all of that spiritual knowledge, God desires us to love Him and love our neighbors.
So whenever negative thoughts come to mind, rebuke them in the name of Jesus and keep walking. You're worth way more than that.
Sometimes His voice will be a still small voice guiding you in the right direction. If you don't know what I'm talking about...talk to a strong spiritual leader, they know how to recognize the Father's voice greatly.
God bless you!
